The US is still getting reports of the horror which happened this morning in London. Words fail me. I feel so bad at what you must be feeling. The UK Tube and buses handle 8.4M people every day. The terrorists are counting on the shock factor to scare everyone into believing they are powerful.

The truth be know -- it's a very small band of crazy people who can't get their way, so they are striking at workers whose only crime is having to travel to earn a living each day. The terrorist will win today because your government will now install metal detectors and bomb sniffing dogs at points of entry to your fantastic Tube. It will increase your commute time, and make you mad, but there really isn't an alternative other than to allow your police to round up the most likely suspects and keep them locked up despite crying and wailing from their family members who "can't believe so and so would do something like this."

I'm sorry if you don't agree, but IMHO it's times like NOW that the good of the MANY needs to override those of a FEW. I believe your legal system is the opposite of ours in the US. Aren't you GUILTY until proven INNOCENT in your legal system? With more than 40 confirmed dead, and over 700 injured, many critical with limbs missing, I'm voting to lock up ANYONE who might be a suspect or have knowledge.

Again, I'm really sorry to hear of your pain. This has obviously made me very mad. I want you to know I stand with you!

I hope the culprits of this despicable act are brought to justice. There is no justification in religion or politics to kill people like that. Terrorism is the new plague in the world and we should be changing our ways to combat it. I have cried to the pictures on tv. There is no excuse for this barbarism.

But also we have to remember who has gotten us into this worldwide mess, all the lies and more lies and maybe then, we, the people of earth, can stop being simple pieces of the game of geopolitical chess. I also feel for all the people of Irak and other parts of the world who has been innocently bombed with a lot of casualties, families killed.

Perhaps, we can understand that what our governments are doing only infuriate people even more and these are the results of wrong international politics, playing the cowboys and the sheriff of the world.

Shame on the terrorist but also shame on all our puppet governments who has got us into this mess. The most elemental physic law tells us that for any action there is a reaction. Well, people are being kill for nothing. We should re-think the whole global terrorism war and come up with something more effective that just bombing the hell out of countries...

I do not want to get into any dispute and I believe this forum is not for this. I just pouring my heart out for all the killed and injured people. I have friends and family there. I still awating news of my cousin. Please God spare him!

Fred

I am a Londoner and everyday I use the bus and train routes on which the bombs were planted. I go through Kings Cross station almost every day. Many thanks for your thoughts.

The justice system in the UK (on which the US system was based in part originally) presumes a person is innocent until proved guilty. Indeed that is the case in all of Western Europe.

Even though I and my family are potentially at risk here in London, I don't believe that I'll be any safer if the British security forces were to detain people without proper cause.
In fact, British courts tend to overrule attempts to hold people for long periods on suspicion. It is the price we have to pay for democracy.

The part of north London where I live is now infamous for the Finsbury Park mosque, where apparently terrorist groups have tried to recruit members - according to some media reports. I remember being shocked when on holiday in Italy to see this mosque reported in an Italian newspaper as a potential security risk.

We live in a complex world. I hope we can find a way to do so peacefully. I fear, however, that the cycle of violence in which we are all implicated will only continue.

I wish I could be more positive...

all the best,

Brian

This is truly tragic and terrible.

My heart goes out to all of the innocent people who have been hurt or have had devastation with their families or friends. You are not alone in your prayers.

God's blessings to you.

I think you're wrong Fred.

London and the rest of the UK has become well used to things going boom now and then--the IRA have been active here for decades.

Now is definately NOT the time for kneejerk reactions. Rather the opposite.

Looking at the transport news todays and things are getting backl to normal very rapidlly indeed. Very few people seem to have been scared into staying at home, and no one is being stripsearched and frogmarched on board trains.

Tragic though it is, it takes more than a few bangs to terrorise this country.
