Last week I was working on a project in XE 5.0. I was merely correcting typing errors and links; not adding new pages. The .imp file size was 1.73mb.

Over the weekend I installed XE5.1 and this morning (after saving to a new file) carried on making the text corrections.

I've just saved, and looked at the file size again... it's now 45.5mb.

So I checked another project... 688kb on Friday with 5.0, 20.5mb today with 5.1.

What's going on?

We haven't changed anything that should cause that. Some quick testing here shows no abnormal file sizes.

Could you ZIP it up and send it in (or send a CD) and we'll see if anything is obviously amiss.

Ok, I've stuck a couple of examples on CD. They'll be in the post tomorrow.

Now I look again, I don't think the difference is between 5.0 and 5.1 .... but nevertheless, while working in 5.1 over the last 24 hours, in two different projects I've managed to increase the .imp file size by at least 18mb whilst doing very little work, so I look forward to hearing what I'm doing wrong!!!

If only I could charge by filesize....

Linda

05.10 was sent to Evolution customers only. There will be a public SR1 to bring everybody up to the same version (05.11) in the near future.

Hmmm, I'm an Evolution customer and I didn't receive 5.1

Who do I've to contact for it?

Unfortunately I know nothing about the admin side and they have left for the day now; so I cannot say why you have not received a disk.
Probably the simplest thing is to wait for 05.11 - it will be out shortly anyway.

Oscar,

If you send an email to sales@digitalworkshop.com including your customer number I'm sure sales will look into it first thing in the morning. This goes for anybody else who feels they may have been missed out.

Regards

<<Ok, I've stuck a couple of examples on CD. They'll be in the post tomorrow.>>

Hopefully you've got this now. Meanwhile in the hope that I was doing something stupid, I tried the same test this evening... I loaded a 1.7mb .imp, altered some text, replaced a couple of images and fixed a bit of hypertext, and saved. The .imp was then 49mb.

In case it helps, the things I noticed in common with each time I've tried this is that:

- I've had to remap the resources, including remapping the programme bullets and borders (the projects were built on other pcs, one where the programme drive was D).

- The bullets didn't remap correctly, and I had to replace them.

- I've altered hypertext.

Any suggestions?

I had something sort of similar recently. And it was to do with Opus & bullets.
I found if I didn't use Opus bullets the file size was much smaller. However, I had to create a new project to achieve it.
I didn't go into it too deeply at the time, so this info may or may not help.

Yes, you're right, that's the problem... I did the test again, starting with a 2mb .imp file... after re-linking in 20 bullets it was 7mb.

I didn't bother carrying on, as it seemed obvious that was where there increase was coming from.

DW... earlier versions didn't create such huge files when using bullets; what's the difference with this version?

It is to do with bullets, but it seems to be down to a particular way of using the program. And as far as I can work out, it has been this way since Opus 04.00. We shall investigate further.

It is to do with bullets

Has this been altered for version 5.13?

I ask as my pub has just shrunk by a few mb... I appreciate that I've become fixated by file sizes, but this rather prestigious job I'm working on has to be completed by Monday (that's why I'm working at 1am on a Sunday morning....) so I'm just a little nervous....

Hi Linda,

I don't know the specifics of your pub, but in the 05.13 PDF release notes, it says this has been fixed. (i.e. the bullets causing some pubs to bloat) :)
