My latest OPUS XE5 publication will include some asf video footage - does anyone know or can give me a pointer as to how it might be possible to detect the version of Windows Media Player being run on the user's PC. The ASF clips will run fine in WMP V7+, it is the area within WMP 6 i.e. on older systems that is my concern - anything less than 6.04.07.112 and the clips will not run. Any help will be most appreciated. Regards
John

I wouldn't risk it. Why not convert the video files. Easy to do. Also asf is hard to control.

I did manage to find a work around for this problem - turns out if I tried to load WMP Version 6.04.07.1112 (which will display the ASF clips) on a Win 2000 or XP system, a panel comes into view indicating that the version is not supported. Conclusion soon gave use to the Opus variable "SYSTEM_OPERATING_SYS". An example ASF file was played continuously on the page. If the variable was "98" then an instruction panel and an upgrade button would show telling the user to upgrade if they could not see the video clip running. Tried the technique out on a couple of "pond life" machines and it worked a treat - good old OPUS.

I realise someone mentioned not using asf but I needed to make maximim use of CD ROM space because the publication will carry audio narration on 33 pages. There are 55mins of mpg clips and now 53mins of ASF video which leaves me 186Mb of space remaining for the wav files.

Once again - thankyou for the help and replies. Regards
John
