I want to use Paradox tables on Windows XP (SP2). Connecting and retrieving data within Opus works fine, but on publishing, I got always the same error: Opus seems trying to open a path (i.e. the directory where the paradox network management file lies in) as a file! As this is not possible, data retrieving in the published application is not possible anymore.

With Access databases this problem does not occur, but I have to use Paradox tables.

Any hints?

Check the publish location in the database settings in publication properties. The default is the publication dir but if your database file is somewhere else you will need to change the path.

after trying over and over again, I have found the following issue:
While building a Paradox .dsn file there has to be entered a second path. First path is for database itself, second path is the place, where Paradox stores multi-user access information (in a file called PDOXUSRS.NET). By default, this second path is pointing to the Windows system folder.
The path given in the Opus database properties as publication target has to match with this second path, too! With other words: both paths in the .dsn file should point to the same directory, otherwise Opus won't find one of the Paradox database components, either database or network file at runtime.

Can you try the following to see if it solves your problem

1) Edit the dsn fild (should be in Program Files\Common Files\ODBC\Data Sources) and move the line ParadoxNetPath= to then end of the file.
2) Open the publication and goto the database tab in the publication properties.
3) Select the dsn and click remove then preview the publication (This should force the dsn to update)
4) If you check the database tab in publication properties again the File Location should contain the correct path.
5) Try publishing again

I'm sorry to say that, but there is no change with your proposed steps. I always have the same error on publication: "cannot open file C:\TMP", while c:\tmp is the publication directory and the directory containing the Paradox database.

There is a bug in Opus with paradox as paradox does not use a specific file just a directory so when it is published the path switching goes wrong. This will be fixed in the next service release.

I got my test publication to work by changing the DBQ= line and adding a \ to the end of the path. Changing this line made my test work when published but then in the editor you could not edit the actions as it prevented ODBC from finding what tables/fields you have in the database.
