Question: Is there any possibility to import "all the variables" you have crated in one publication into a new pub??
Sometimes we work in similar projects that will require to build similar variables so instead of re-creating the whole list of variables it will be easier if you just import them from one pub to another.
Is this possible now or we have to add it to the wishing list for future releases of the software.

Thank you

Hello German,

This is not availlable in Opus.

Pete Smithies put this on the wishlist in april (http://www.digitalgrapevine.info/viewtopic.php?t=711), but I think we have to ask for it again.

The more people ask, the better .

You could always simply copy your publication and remove all the
chapters, save it as template.imp then when you want to create a new
publication make a copy of it, open the copy and rename it to your new
publications name.

Hi Brendon

I'm not sure this can work if you wish to change a publication into a SCORM pub, after its completed and contains many, many variables .

I have a "regular" pub with hundreds of variables. Should I now want to convert it to a SCORM pub, is there any way, using the process described in your reply above, to re-open it as a SCORM pub with all variables from the original (non-SCORM) imported into the new one? This would avoid the onerous task of re-writing hundreds of variables over again (I wish these could be copied and pasted into the new pub.)

Kind Regards,
Stephen

Hi Stephen,

you're right this doesn't work when you try to combine variables form more then one publication. For a lot of my work I use EZmacros.

You can record keybord and mouse tasks and I use it to copy each variable I want to re-use to an excel spreadsheet.

First I copy all my variables to excel using EZmacros.
From excel I use EZmacros to copy the variables I want into my publication using just one button or mouse click of reach variable.
EZmacros does the job for me.

But this is only a workaround because I don't know how to get the job done in Opus. It should be great if it was possible to copy and past variables between publications.

Kind regards,

Stephen,

You can go to the pubication properties and change a publications type to any type you like. If it is a scorm bublication you want you could change the type to scorm andf then copy pages in from a blank scorm publication.

Thanks, Oscar and Brenden.

Brenden,

If I understand correctly: after a "regular"pub has been created with all of its variables, you could (1) re-open it and change it to SCORM and (2) copy a blank set of SCORM pages into it. Would this produce the same SCORM result and functionality as if the pub had started out as SCORM from its inception?

Kind Regards,
Stephen

Yes.

Different publication types simple limit the functions of the editor to only features that will work when exported. Also when you create a publication for a given type the editor automatically puts pages into the publication that are required.

Thanks, Brenden. I'll give it a try.
