Hi,

I've noticed that if you publish a trial publication that it is possible to just change your computers date and it will run.

In future would it be possible for DW to add something to Opus so it records the computers current date when a publication first runs, and so if the date is set back, it will notice and expire the publication.

Hi Joe,

This is discussed a few weeks ago.

viewtopic.php?t=1210

By the way there is another solution to reuse trialversions of software.

Create a ghost image before you install trial programs.

When a program expired, you can set the ghost image back (5 - 10 minutes) and install all the trial software again.

So if people want to use trial software unlimited you can't stop them.

Kind regards,

We are looking into the possibility of adding this as an enhancement to the
security features of XE in the future. In the meantime we have produced
a script example that would allow you to prevent a publication running if
the date is rolled back. If you would like a copy of the script please email
support@digitalworkshop.com and request a copy.

Hi to all
I am a bit confused about this because I have just finished producing a trial version of a pub and I have advance the date to the end of the trial and then back in time "before the original date" and then to the correct date and in all instances the pub behaves correctly by showing me the expired date page.
I am using Pro XE 5.14
Is this problem in this version or in previous versions??
German

Hi German,

If memory serves me correctly, there was an issue in the earlier versions of Opus Pro 04, but it was rectified in later versions. It is working correctly in Opus Pro 05.14 XE. -- i.e. Once the publication expires, even if you back-date your system clock, the publication will remain expired! (unless the user bothers to have a backup prior of their registry, which I assume Oscar is talking about.

Also, Joe may have been implying "back-dating" the pub, whilst the evaluation period was still running? (this is the only time you will notice it affecting the "days remaining".

I am not sure what issue Brenden is talking about. Maybe it is something else :?: Oscar is quite correct however in saying: "if people want to use trial software unlimited you can't stop them!"

But the "expire" is working correctly in 05.14 :) (well for me anyway!)

Steve is correct once the publication goes over it's end date it is locked and turning back the clock will not make it work again.

(I have seen one piece of software that will even prevent disk images from restarting a publication)

You could always use the post and get webdata to create a web based evaluation monitor.

Hi Brenden,

I'm afraid I have to disagree with this.
I never saw a program you can't restart using an image.

The only way this could work, is when the publication changes during installation, so it recognizes the computer and or the date.

But if you make a copy of the publication and keep that safe it should work again after replacing an image.

If you know what piece of software will prevent images from restarting the publication, I'm really interested to do some research.

By the way, great you're posting at the forum in you're weekend (I suppose your working days are monday till friday).

Kind regards,

Oscar

I will try to find you some details of the system on my return to the office.

All the DW team try to keep an eye on the forums/support at the weekends and in the evening time allowing.
