Hi

I'm trying to create my first sample pub using the post web data action. I'm stuck trying to create a (hopefully) simple Perl script to place on my website to handle the data. I have a cgi-bin and can use Notepad to write the Perl script.

However, having never done this before, the most basic Perl tutorials don't help. They almost always provide instructions and samples for posting form data, not the post web data action I would be using in Opus XE 5.14.

I'm hoping someone more familiar with Perl scripting can help. If I can set up the basic sample, I can then extend it for more complex uses.

If I use 3 text input boxes, each saving data to a separate variable and have each post data to my website's cgi-bin via a button, what do I need to add (Perl script, storage file, etc.) on my website to collect/store the data and then be able to view it?

I would appreciate any help.

Kind Regards,
Stephen

Hi Stephen,

A while ago there was a topic with an example using Opus and Perl by Bill Londell.

HI Stephen

The post web data action in Opus sends data in the same way
that a form does. So a perl script that processes form data
will work for the post web data action.

If you need some more specific info, feel free to email me.

Chris

Stephen,

Have you taken a look at the tutorials at:

viewforum.php?f=13

Here you will find 3 post web tutorials. They all use PHP not Pearl but they may help you get the feel for post webdata before moving on.

Regards

Brenden Knifton

Thanks, Brenden.

I decided to use another approach, which actually improves the result. Instead of posting quiz scores via post web action, I have set up a text file to hold the variables with the scores. The text file is then attached to an e-mail which is sent via the launch e-mail action.

Choosing encryption for text file storage, and setting up a separate "Reader" to plug the text file in to unencrypt when returned by the quiz-taker, supports confidentiality of score results.

All in all, an optimal outcome.

Once again, Opus's super features and versatility comes to the rescue. DW team and Forum colleagial support are equally superb!

I never cease to be impressed with Opus XE!

Kind Regards

Stephen
