I want to launch a Microsoft Word file from an Opus Pro 5XE application and have it open at a specified bookmark in the document. I have tried to do this using the "launch file" action either from a hyperlink or from a button object but can't seem to get it to work.

I'm entering the bookmark as #bookmark_name in the parameters field but the document just opens at the start. I'm sure it worked the first time I did this but when I created some more links to other bookmarks in the same document it just opened the document at the start.

Can anyone suggest a solution to this. or is what I am trying to do not possible. I've thought about scripting the action but the attempts I have made using the help files for information haven't been successful.

Thanks for any help

You could create an HTML file and display it in your publication in a browser object and then create hyperlinks in your HTML file.

Code:
<a href="C:\Documents and Settings\Brian\My Documents\brianbookmark.doc#BRIAN">Link to Word document.</a>

I tried just launching as webpage, launching as a file, nothing else worked, but it works from IE when clicking on it as a hyperlink. Maybe someone else could figure out how to do it without needing to create an HTML page. Be forewarned that you will see a security dialog display before going to the document.

Don't know whether this could be useful to you.[/code]

Thanks for the response.

I'll give it a try but won't I have problems if I don't know the exact location of the file for the link? From the application, some people might access it from the CD whilst others might have it downloaded to their hard drive (for modification).

Thanks

You should be able to use a relative link in your HTML page to where the Word documents would be in relation to your HTML page on your publication. That way you wouldn't have to worry about it. Maybe it doesn't work. I didn't test it fully.
