Hi all,
I have a big problem with Opus Pro r2.81:

I produced a very simple publication based on a map of Africa in which all the countries are clickable. Each country write a text (eg. algeria.pdf) in a variable called COUNTRY. Then launch the winopen.exe application to open that pdf file (I used this way because Opus can "launch" only .exe applications). Now everything works fine on Windows 98 and Windows XP, but on Windows 2000 the second time a try to click on the map, the publication quit itself without displaying any error message.

Anyone encountered something similar?

Thanks in advance.

I had no problems launching a pdf directly from the Opus 2.81
launch command. As far as I know, Opus will launch any
associated file.

As Chris says you can launch any filetype - the browser shows executables by default but you can select All Files to see everything. Obviously if you launch a document type then the end user must have a suitable program to handle that type - in your case Acrobat.

Thank you for your advice, but infact my problem is not how to launch an .exe file or other files from Opus 2.81 because this function works fine.

As I specified on my first post I have a problem in using my publication ONLY on Windows 2000 that, clicking the second time on a link (launching a pdf file), quit the publication WITHOUT DISPLAYING ANY ERROR MESSAGE.

Due to my publication works fine with Windows 98 and Windows XP there should be something connected with the operative system (I thought...).

Thanks in advance again!

Do you have all the updates for Windows 2000?

I ask because I used Win2K for 5 years on Opus 2X through to Opus Pro XE 5.14.

I never experienced anything like you have described, but I made sure that I regularly updated Win 2K, DirectX, and sound and graphics drivers.

Hi there, could you please advise if the computer where you are trying to run this pub is part of a network using Windows 2000? Because it sounds like it may be associated with network privileges.
Cheers

Dear all,
the machines I tried my publication are connected to the same network including Windows 2000 / XP and Macintosh.

However I solved the problem (as some of you suggested me) by deleting from all the links to the respectively PDF documents the "winopen.exe" calling in the Launch command.

So the Launch command call directly the PDF document.

I'm very happy and I would like to thank you all.
