Opus MP3 Audio Problem

For some reason in my Opus publications MP3 files are distorted and choppy. Even Opus pubs built a year ago (now on CDs) have the same sound problem. I can play the MP3 files (resource folder) without a problem in Windows Media Player.

If I recall correctly this problem was previously associated with a stray audio codec. Two week ago I done a restore of C drive with an August 2005 date and I think this may of caused the problem. This problem appears in Opus 2.81, Opus 4.5 and Opus 5.14 pubs.

I attached a screenshot of the audio and video codec installed on the Win XP (SP2) system. If someone can spot a problem please let me know.
(Lost the attachment???)

I should add that wav files play correctly in Opus.

Thanks,

The first problem is you have not attached a screen shot.

When you install Win_98 thru XP, you will get the Fraunhofer "Advanced" MP3 codec installed by defult. As this is the defult for most users it would be wise to use this as the defult one on a devolpment or test machine.

If you have the sound files in wav format when you publish from Opus by default it will internally convert these files to the ogg format and reduce the size whilst retaining a high level of clarity.

Brendan,
thanks for the information on using the ogg format type. However, it seems funny that I built a "working" pub using MP3's rated at 56kbps and now they won't play correctly.

When I get time I will test the ogg format in a sample pub and try in on the systems I have available and see if I encounter any problems.

Resolution:
I used my original wav files and created MP3's set at 96kbps and they play fine.

Thanks,
