Hi Rob, thanks for info. Yup I guess it's down to the quality of all the components etc. The lenses. What's the sensor?

The thing that sits behind the lens and forms the image - in budget cameras it is one device, while on more expensive models there are 3, one for each colour (red, green, blue).

I have to say, the worst possible feature on this "toy" camera is the automatic power down ... so unfriendly that I'm wondering if it's a deliberate cripple of some kind to creat price-point functionality difference between product ranges.

No, not deliberate cripple - people in the target market forget to switch them off, and would then complain that their battery has run down.

I'm assuming that the pro cameras don't have anything so silly on them?

If they do, there'll be an option to switch it off.

Camera & equipment hire - yes, that's a good idea. You could even try a pro camera out by hiring it before buying...

I mentioned the film-makers organisation purely as a cheap way of getting the quality for a project without having to buy - they are much cheaper than pro hire shops.

Best wishes,
Rob
