Post subject: A tip: stopping a page while video is playing
PostPosted: February 4th, 2006, 5:15 am
It took me ages to resolve this, so I thought I'd pass it on.

I've been working on a pub where several pages play small videos. I have provided several buttons which will interrupt the playing of a page: Exit, Go To, Previous, etc.

When any of the pages containing videos were interrupted, even if the video was not playing, the transition between pages momentarily left a very black distracting shadow which was the same size as the video object.

When I finally found a solution, it was so simple. That's often the way :D

Select the video object and open its Properties. Change Video Type to Rendered. That's it!

I've tested this on several video objects, and to paraphrase Dirty Harry: It works for me.

I hope this might save someone some time.

Ray,

This sounds to me like it could be linked to a graphics card driver issue.
Do you have the latest graphics card drivers installed? If not I would try downloading and installing the latest drivers from your graphics card manufacturer’s website.

Brenden

Thanks for the tip.

My drivers are updated automatically, so this isn't one of the issues that I immediately think of when strange display events occur.

That said, I manually checked and found a later driver which I installed.

I changed Rendered back to Chroma Key, and the black box immediately returned, so I changed it back to Rendered.

I don't often use videos, so I don't know if this is an old vs recent issue.

Ray --

Thanks for the tip on setting Video Objects to Render. Yes, I've got a new project which I noticed had the "black" image, so I'll try your solution.

Glad I read this forum several times each day. We can all learn from one another. Thanks!
