Rob,

What version of the Flash player have you got for IE? Opus browser windows are from IE not any other web browser. If you have not updated your IE Flash player because your are normaly running Firefox when Opus calls the browser it may be a very old version of the Flash player it is calling and needs a higher version to run.

Good call Brenden - on this particular machine IE is curled up in a corner unused, and has NO Flash player plugged in ...so, in that case, the warning will be IE trying to get the current Flash player installed from Macromedia (which just happens to be version 8. )

I wonder what would happen if I chose Linda's option to install Flash within her Opus pub? ...as Firefox is my default browser would I be offered the correct download? ...haven't got time to try it myself right now.

Answering my own question - I'm directed to the Netscape/Firefox version of the Flash player ...so it wouldn't help.

Linda, would it be better to remove the "Install Flash" option, and just let user's IE installation attempt the correct download (assuming internet connection)?

I've tried it on both sp1 and sp2 and it has been fine.

You're dead right... the link stemmed from the idea that I felt I should tell them they need flash. But if they can go online to download it, then the programme can do it for them. So I guess I can remove the link.

I wonder what message they'd get if they had no flash, and the pc wasn't connected to the internet?

Actually, going back to the specific client who's about to kill me, they CAN play the flash by opening the html file in Explorer. So they do have some version of Flash installed.

But they can't play it from within Opus.

So... does this suggest that, like you, they're not using IE, but also that they're not connected to the internet, therefore they don't get a warning message either?

Then would they just get a white square?

Hi Linda !

Opened the pub , the html file and the swf file seperately (Flash 7) . Everything works fine over here :D

Just isolated that particular machine from my network - and yes, when I run the Opus pub I just get the white area (with a tiny missing image icon top left) ...no warnings, nothing else.

So your diagnosis sounds spot on to me ...and I'm struggling to think of a foolproof way round this.

I've really appreciated everyone's help here today.

And it would seem to me that the client's pc has some odd restriction in place.

But it doesn't work on any of the pcs in her office area (so IT have put the same restriction on every pc.) I've learned that they're on XP Pro with Internet Explorer, which rules out the previous possibilities of the wrong browser.

But... Have you ever tried telling a client that their publication is fine, and their pc is at fault?

It doesn't work.... they throw things....

Everybody keep thinking... the html file plays the swf file in Explorer, but not in an Opus pub. Why?

Wrong Flash player version AND no internet connection?
...or maybe wrong player AND barred from updating?

Linda, get them to run the HTML file, and then, while the Flash file is playing, right-click on the movie ...the dialogue box that pops up will indentify which version Flash player they have installed (listed at the bottom).

Maybe you could re-render your Flash file into the appropriate version output?

German,

Can you explain this any more?

Where would I find the setting to allow embedded files?

If they had this disabled, would it be possible that it didn't allow it in Opus, but DID allow it in Internet Explorer?

Thanks, Linda

Hi Linda
Please try this:

On the end users machine start Windows Explorer
Go to the tools drop down menu
Select folder options
Select the File Types tab
Select swf from the list
Once selected click the advanced button
Check that the Browse in same window is checked.
Highlight "Open" and edit and check the application that is used to perform this action. It should be pointing to "SAFlashPlayer.exe"
If this is not checked then the swf will not open inside Opus

I hope this helps
German
