I have a kiosk pub which accesses our online database. This is fine in the Opus browser window. Unfortunately the pages in the database have a few external links.
We don't want user surfing from our kiosks.
Does anyone know if there is a way to disable all those links as well as the right-mouse button funtions.

here's the rub...

The website itself cannot be modified.

Our ITC people have come up with some solutions which end up with 'page not found' in a new browser window, which then of course has print/address/toolbar etc etc functions...

they do need to interact with it - it's a searchable database...

Are you saying that you want to be able to go to some sites but prevent the user from following links from those sites?

If so and you know the url's of the sites you do do want you kiosk to go to simple modify the hosts file on the kiosk machine.

Lets say you not want anybody to follow a link to www.google.com you would add:

127.0.0.1 www.google.com

to the host file. (127.0.0.1) is your kiosks machines local address.

on the face of it this looks perfect thank you!
I'll try it out on my own PC at home, then pass it on to our ITC people to implement on the kiosk.

(I'm assuming it doesn''t open a new window (with toolbars) since it regards it as already open....)

it turns out some of the links from the database page are to the same server, so the 'host' option doesn't cut them out, and they are set to open in a new window, so the toolbar still appears...

If they are on the same Domain or share an IP I don't know of any other way of stopping this. They only thing I can think of id how about looking at some of the Net Nanny type software. The aim of this type of software is to stop I am a spammer sites etc but it may be possible to add specific pages into its restricted list.
