hi,

i have a problem with opus on my own laptop (dell 1.6 centrino, 512ram, windows xp...) : when i use 220v that's ok but when i want to run a publish presentation on the battery, presentation is no more smooth. The Dell deactivate something when running on the battery that make my presentation not running smooth but i have not found what yet.
Have somebody an idea ?

thank you
benoit

When I ran my HP laptop on its battery, I noticed my 1GHz machine was only running at 500MHz. I called HP to find the problem. Well, they call it a "feature" to save the battery. When you run from standard power (120V here in the US, 220V elsewhere) your laptop runs at its full rated computing clock speed, otherwise, it only runs at half the rated speed.

What about RAM memory? How much do you actually have AVAILABLE? After you've load other software packages, many of them "pre-load" some of their applications when you merely start your computer. This makes loading those other programs seem faster, BUT it reduces the available amount of RAM memory you have. I'm thinking when you run an OPUS .exe publication, it is probably using more RAM than running things through the CPU processor (like when you have to render a video, or doing serious spreadsheet math calculations).

Fred

Your post brought back memories from the early days of PC computing when I ran a consulting business.

Invariably, whenever I reported a problem or fault (particularly with software) the standard reponse was: "That's an undocumented feature."

In the early 1980s, a systems engineer from a large PC maker told me that this was the favoured response to cover up mistakes.

Good to see that some things don't change :D

There is a way in most laptops to force the unit to run at full speed on batteries. There is also a way to stop some units from diming down the display brightness also to save power when on batteries. Both of these changes will undoubtedly use up battery life.
