I've made a click-through presentation for a client... 15 slides of captions brought on with select/case, like a glorified powerpoint. It uses Masterpages.

Now they'd like a music track running throughout.

But on a couple of slides, they'd like the music to stop while something else happens (a different piece of audio), then for it to start again (it can be started from the beginning).

Sometime in the last 10 years, I've probably asked this before, but can't remember how to do it.

So... I can start the music on the first page, and make it continue when the page changes.... but how can I reference it later on?

Do I run it in a separate unseen page? Or? How do people normally do this?

Thanks, Linda

Take a look at the attached example.

It has the sound playing on the first page set to channel 1.
On page two is a button to play a second sound.
The actions of this button are to mute the sound on channel 1, play sound 2 on channel 2 and then reset volume on channel 1 to full.

Hope this help

Ok, thanks.. I've got the idea.

A couple of questions...

-If I always tell the main piece of music to play on Channel 1, will this ensure that it's never playing more than once at a time?

- I've got a couple of button press sounds that are currently on auto channel. Am I better off putting these on 3 to keep them out of the way?

I no doubt should have thought of this at the start, rather than at the end, of the project!

Yes you can only play one sound at a time on a channel. If you send a new sound to the channel the new one will replace the old.

Auto channel will place the sound on the first avaialble sound channel, so it may be better to put them on a set channel.

Linda --

Rather than just turn the volume down and leave a resource burning cycles in the background, I'd suggest you add a "Stop ALL WAV files" BEFORE starting the second video/audio, and then add "Sycn to End" to that video/audio with the Action to start your background music.

Fred is correct, the only reason I went with the volume option was that it is a simple way to keep the background track running, without having to start at the beginning of the track each time. If you have a couple of very short additional sounds close together in time, it may sound odd if the sound keeps restarting.
