Im using Opus Pro 5.5.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way of changing something (i.e. a button/ background image etc.) that is common to every page in a chapter in my publication without having to edit every individual page?

Same goes for dropping an object in the same place on every chapter page without having to go through each and every one.

There must be a simpler way - I must be missing something very obvious, this is taking me so much time!

Thanks, Emma.

Hi Emma,

Have you considered integrating a Master page/s into your publication?

When a Master page is edited, the change gets reflected throughout the publication that has pages linked to that Master page.

I only want some objects on each page to remain identical, and some objects to change from page to page.

I am not completely familiar with using master pages, I'll have a look in the Help index. Thanks for you suggestion.

Hi Emma

If I have understood your needs correctly, try this solution:

Have you considered putting the unchanging objects on a Master Page? They will then appear on every page which uses that MP. Remember, you cannot edit a MP object once it is inserted onto a page, but you can have as many different MPs as you need.

Next, create a new blank page that uses that MP. On that new page, add the other common objects you want to use repeatedly on different pages. Either add them with content, or add them as empty place holders for whatever objects you plan on using.

Put these objects exactly where you want them to be on the page. Be sure to give each a distinct and meaningful name.

Next, go to the Components Menu, and either open an existing gallery, or create a new gallery. (I find it more efficient for the way I work to have separate galleries for each project.)

With you gallery open, return to the blank page.

Select the objects you want to use repeatedly. Right-click, and choose Copy to gallery.

In future, when you want to use one of these objects again, click the Components Tab (towards bottom of the tabs down the left side of the Organiser Pane). Open the Gallery that holds these objects. Identify the object(s) you want to re-use, and double-click it/them. They will be pasted onto your new page exactly in the original positions.

I have come to rely so much on this combination of MPs and Gallery Components, that I doubt that I could now work without them.

I hope I have explained this clearly. If not, please come back with more questions.

Just to clarify - you certainly can edit items added to a master page - but you have to edit them on the master page itself, not directly from any pages that use that master page.

Good point Duncan. I had it in mind to emphasise that, but clicked the "go" button too quickly :)

If your object is an image or a background that is also an image you can go into the resources folder and modify that image. Be sure that when you change it you give it the same name os the old one. That updated image will then appear wherever you use it.
