Hi

Is it possible to set an expiration date after which the publication will no longer run? I'd like to set up a Beta version of a pub that can be distributed for feedback and expire for example on June 1, 2006 or another date.

One idea I had was to script a GetDate function as in the scripting guide:

var myDate = new Date()
var currDate = myDate.getDate()

Then set a disable object for a button (s) on the pub's first page that navigates to the next page conditioned by an "if" statement. So far, I can't figure out the "if" wording since the return is not a number specific to month, year which can work with =>.

(I recognize that this will not work if the system clock is changed back, but it provides a minimal safeguard that doesn't require an unlock code, or 30 day expiry which seems to count off from the day its installed.)

Any ideas would be appreciated as to how the "if" statement would be worded and/or what others have done to achieve this type of result.

Kind Regards,
Stephen

Opus XE has this capability. Please go to your Profile and under "Signature" add information on your computer and which version of Opus you are using.

Stephen --

Thanks for updating your information. Since you've got OPUS XE 5.5, go into the top Menu -> Edit -> Publication Properties. Click on the "Security" Tab and look at the "Evalulation" section in the middle of the screen. OPUS XE will handle everything for you. You don't have to write code. I believe it even checks to see if the System Date was changed, so the viewer can't just change the date to get more use of your Pub. It used to work that way...

Take a look at the other options. You will want to create a "No Longer Valid" Page to which you will send someone AFTER the expiration date ("Go to this page if evaluation expired"). You can also have a Registration ID which the viewer could use as a KEY to allow fully use when they've paid your fee.

Thanks, Fred, for your reply.

I'm trying to specify a date for expiration, as Oscar's example allows for, rather than a number of days or uses as permitted in the Opus security/evaluation tab.

Again, thanks for your help.

Kind Regards,
