Hi

Publishing a project, I found that in addition to the .exe file, Opus generated an ilmOLE.dll file. Not knowing what this is used for, I am unsure whether to include it along with the .exe file in a set-up installer used to download the pub onto the viewer's computer. Will the ilmOLE.dll need to be installed along with the .exe file?

Any help would be appreciated.

Kind Regards,

You are probably using either a Browser object or DocView object correct?

If so, you will need to include the DLL in your installation package. Although I just tried running the EXE after having deleted the DLL from the publication directory and it still works.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I am using a docview in the pub.

Sounds like the safe thing to do is include the .dll file in the installer.

I wonder if the DW support team can weigh in on what is best, as well.

Kind Regards,

Stephen,

When you create a publication with either a Doc view or a Browser object Opus includes the ilmOLE.dll in the publication folder. This file must be included with the finished project for the doc view and or Browser windows to work. One of the main reasons for it being external is to reduce the size of the player for all users who are not using Doc or Browser objects.

Thanks Brenden.

I've included the file in the Windows installer to accompany the .exe file to the program files folder. I suspect Opus will know where to find it for the end-user's runtime, since I'm unaware of any way to set the path within the Opus editor.

Kind Regards,

Stephen,

As long as the exe and dll are in the same folder it will all work fine.

Hello Brenden,

The reduction of the player... Is this really an issue, as the ilmOLE.dll is just about 100 kB in size?
What I furthermore would like to know is the following... Does my application, which uses a browserobject still work on a Windows 7 computer where Internet Explorer is NOT installed?

Jan

Hi Jan,

My guess is that if IE is not itstalled the browser object will not work.

Thanks for the quick answer Brenden...
I hope however that Digital Workshop is aware of the fact that Microsoft now has to 'offer' the choice of which browser should be installed... More and more people like to install other browsers than IE (like myself, as an Opera user), and I wonder if this means that the Opus presentations which use the browser object will not (or no longer) work!!!
I myself use the browserobject a lot in my presentations as the only way to get for example images from a MySQL database (or an image as a file on a webserver) and display it 'as a webpage' (created by a PHP script) in my presentation. I really would not know any other way to do this...

Jan

The browser choice update does not remove IE - it simply installs and defaults an alternative Browser.

Removing IE is general considered a very bad, if really possible, idea. Specific versions of IE provide fundamental aspects to the Window's Operating that will fail to work if you did actually manage to achieve the removal. A lot of trouble for little gain!

As for accessing the images from a mySQL database, I'd imagine that DLL could pull the images to a local folder and then display them in Opus avoiding IE altogether.

OK Mack, then it is no problem after all to use the browser object in future presentations :)

In a new presentation which is under development at the moment over here, several (small) images on a server are now shown together with other information (text) as a single webpage. This page is then shown on screen in the browser object and may contain up to 500 small images... This works OK and very good...
Your solution of pulling the images to a local folder might work, but I do not want to download the images directly to disk and then display it. Perhaps this is an option for future publications...
