Hi folks,

I am in the middle of a computer science masters, and I'm wanting to develop a simple piece of software to sell indapendantly to help fund my degree. I have quite alot of experience in developing in macromedia director, and I know that director has the ability to do what I want this software to do.

However, there is just one problem.... Director is hideously overpriced! I want to keep this all above board and own a licenced copy of the authoring tool that i use, and the price tag of £1000 for director mx is just too high. I am therefore searching for alternatives....

The programming behind the application I wish to create isnt difficult at all, but I would just like to know if Illuminatus would support it (i want to make sure that, at this price tag, its more than just a slide-show program!).

So, my questions are:

-- does Illuminatus have a programming language behing it, like the Lingo language of director? Any details on the nature/limitations of this language would be appreciated...

-- does it support creating reading and writing data into simple .txt files, so that certain infrmation can be saved and then brought up next time the software is started?

-- is there a command within the built in language to read the system clock time?

Thats it for now, any help appreciated. Im sorry if these sound like silly questions but I know nothing about this progam, except its so much more affordable than director!!

- David

Why don't you just download the free evaluation and see if it meets your needs? The well-written help file answers all of these questions and more. It is a great program.

Opus has its own scripting language called opusscript. It is based on ECMAscript (a.k.a. javascript) with extended commands to interact with opus specific features. The language, syntax and limitations are documented in the helpfile.

You can write to, and read from, text files.

The system clock can be read using script or the inbuilt variables.
