I have created some buttons which I use as checkboxes.

After setting an image for the different button states some of the property tabs and property options disappear.

E.g. it's not possible to set a button to a radiobutton group after assigning an image to one button state.

I wonder if this behaviour is correct. IMHO it makes no sense especially concerning the options like radiogroup, pushbutton, checkbox which are no longer available after assigning an image.

I found a way to solve this problem while doing the property settings in another order. One has first to change the button options like radiobutton etc. and then assign an image. In this order it works but nevertheless it's a strange behaviour.

Addendum:

It seems that this behaviour does not occure always. I made some copies via copy&paste of the button and when doubleclicking on the buttons some show all property tabs and other not. :?:

The buttons with the decreased tabs show only the following tabs:

Background, Button, Image, Border and Effects.

On the "Button"-tab all entries on the right (radiobutton options etc.) are gone as you can see on the attached bitmap.

Look at your example. In the left window, you have "Mouse Over" selected. Only certain Properties can be changed for States other than "Normal," therefore some Tabs "disappear" when you go to a State other than Normal. Make sense?

If you want to see the "missing" Properties. select the Normal State in the window on the left and they will reappear.

demofred,

thanks for your reply at least I understand now why the tabs disappear.

Although I cannot see a sense in hiding options which obviously do not belong to a special state of a button like the radiobutton settings.

Even settings which definitively belong to a button state like mouse over (e.g. the settings for the mouse over cursor on the cursor tab) disappear when clicking on the mouse over state on the left.

Or what's with the drag&drop settings? According to this argument one would rather expect to see them when clicking on the mouse down state. Instead the tab disappears when doing so.

After all I still think that this could be done in a more comprehensible and more logical way. Maybe in Opus 6.

Thanks again for your explanation.

T.

OPUS has worked with States for several versions, and we've gotten used to it the way it is. I think when you've used it more, it will make more sense.

Some software packages "gray out" things that don't work in certain situations. It makes sense OPUS would only display Tabs which can be changed for a specific State. For example, it wouldn't make sense to have different Radio Button features for Mouse Over and Mouse Down. They all are the same as Normal. You can ONLY adjust Radio Buttons in the Normal State.

demofred,

I can really understand this point of view since I have used Toolbook and Director for many years and these have a lot more tricky and incomprehensible rough edges than Opus.

On the other side the GUI of a software should be accessible as possible even or especially for new users. For this it seems useful to me to handle such things similar to other development environments.

After all due to your help I now understand how it works and thats the main point.
