Something strange is happening.
I want to create a new publication - but use some pages from older publications - the older pages were created in a variety of opus pro versions - but from memory - nothing older than Opus Pro v 4 and some if not most were created in XE.
Anyway - when I open the pub into my latest version and on the rare occasion accept yes to convert from an older version - I then drag the pages I want from the original pub into the new one - all seems well until I go into those pages now in the new publication in order to edit them.

The strange thing is - I have duplicates of each of the original objects on each page. And I am unable to determine which I have selected from either the main palette or from the page itself.

I have to guess at what to delete and it doesnt always work.

Has anyone else come across this??

Regards

Pete

Hi Pete

This topic has been discussed many times over many years by several people.

Have a look for this topic: "Duplicated objects on the page - How did they get there?" I think that is the latest reincarnation.

I've had this problem for several years, and have devised a solution that works successfully for me. Perhaps it might help you.

You might also search for "phantom" which I think is a phrase previously used.

My experience is that when you select a duplicated object in the Organiser, sometimes only one object appears to be selected, sometimes two of more of the duplicates are selected. Pressing Delete after selecting usually leaves one of the duplicates.

When several hundreds of duplicated pages are involved, this is a painful process.

Hi Pete,

I do recall a few months back a similar problem, where by numerous objects were duplicated - each object had identical names and we could only select one object and not delete the second etc.

I initially thought it was a memory problem / system corruption issue, but obviously not.

We ended up rebuilding the pages required individually on a new system which did take some time.

Don,
Thanks - yes I too have had to rebuild the pages - Kinda defeats the object though dont you think?

Personally - I would prefer an "OI STOP" as it appeared at first glance to have worked - indeed if I hadnt wanted to re edit the pages - I might not have noticed the duplicates

Regards,
Pete

I have now given up and started again.

If I treat the imported pages as standalone i.e publish seperately and use a launch command (and ensure I use the "use original file names" for any external assets) and ensure the relevant .exe file is in the system publication directory - I can get away with what I want to achieve.
However - it does not resolve the problem of importing pages - perhaps a compatibility caveat would be helpful to overcome the issue?

Still an Opus no. 1 fan however

Regards
Pete
