I have develop simple publication using 3 master page. Very basic, only text and small graphics.

I receive dialog box on re-inserting CD into CD Drive - using autorun.inf created by Opus Pro XE 05.

Please see the image of error message.

Azmi,

Are you running the latest version of Opus 5.14 if not go to the download area of the Digital Workshop website:

http://www.digitalworkshop.com/downloads/index.shtml#Service

Download and install service release 1.

Once you have done this republish your presentation.

When you run the publication for the first time after republishing you will get the same message. Once the publication is closed down the message will not be displayed again. Any machine that the original publication has not been run on will not get the message with the newly published version.

Regards

Brenden Knifton

I have republished the pub but the only thing is was tested on the same machine. Will try on fresh PC.

May I know what caused the problem?

Still not solve:

(1) I have tested pub on fresh PC - same.

(2) I suspect the master page then created new pub with only 1 master page - same.

(3) Then I remove master page - same.

Please help.

Hi Azmi
I wonder is this is ma Directx problem
What Direct x and OS is on your test computer
Have you downloaded and installed the latest Directx
I used to occasionally get the same kind of error message on older student computers in some classrooms when using Opus built test publications but the messages ceased when we upgraded to new Dells and Win XP.
Cheers
Graham

The error message is displayed when a publication is not closed down correctly the last time it was run.

When a publication is run it checks to see if there is a key in the registry indicating there was a problem last time the publication was run.

If not the publication writes an entry to the registry.

When the publication is closed it removes the entry from the registry.

If the publication crashes then the entry is not removed from the registry and is picked up next time the publication is run.

On startup if there is an entry in the registry indicating a failure to close correctly last time it was run the publication shows the dialog box shown above to allow the end user to try reducing some features to try to prevent another crash in the future.

It should not be possible for this message to be displayed the first time a publication is run on a machine because the entry in the registry can ‘t be present.

The reason for recommending the upgrade to 05.14 is a very small number of users were affected by a bug that did not delete the registry setting when a publication was closed down. This meant that the second time a publication was run the dialog would be displayed even when the publication had closed normally.

Wow it is great seeing "Bago" on the forum again.

Hello Azmi,

Is your publication crashing/self-exiting every time your run it? You have not stated this. If this is the case, then there is an indication that something is not right with your publication. i.e. whilst the publication continues to crash it will always give the trouble-shooting message on subsequent running.

Adding to Brenden and Graham's messages, have you tried other Opus pubs? Does your computer/s have the latest graphics drivers. Have you tried disabling DirectX on the pub properties? Have you also considered a possible problem with your CD and auto-run? (all these questions hey!) :)

Try creating a new simple one page test pub from scratch. If it gives problems post the IMP file here, but I recommend checking the former suggestions first.

Hi everyone,

1. Application developed on old notebook - Sony Vaio TR2 1Ghz Std. (XP Home Ed)
2. Opus Pro XE v05.14
3. Tested on various machine - Win 98SE, 2000, XP Pro (512MB, 2.8GHz with HPlatest patch), XP Home... std configuration.
4. I event tried disable DirextX (default run if available)
5. I have created one page with all pub set to default - ocassionally got error message.
6. I then disable Alt + F4 and Esc to exit - always got the error mesage.

Another question: Is there some thing wrong with Opus on my notebook? It generate 2 files after published - .EXE and .INF and no .DAT or .DLL?

Attached is the test file.

Hi Steve,

Sorry to miss your point. After click yes application run as expected.

I have uninstall and restart pc. Then run fresh setup, just in case, Opus corrupted. Compile pub again and same result.

As I am running out of time, I will duplicate limited copy of CD to be distributed to may participants - of course I will inform them on the expected error message!

Hope to see any work around as I put my trust on Digital Workshop/Opus!

Hi Azmi,

How do you exit the pub then, as there is no exit in your sample IMP file. The only way to cancel the pub is for me to bring up Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL) and close the program. This replicates a crashed program and Opus will show the trouble-shooting dialogue prompt next time the pub is run.

It is generating the correct files in your test IMP. You have Create Autorun.inf file ticked in the Publishing Settings (when you publish). No need to have publish keyboard/mouse recording ticked.

Why were you expecting a DAT or DLL file? No DLL file is required in your text IMP.

If you still experience problems, it may be a suggestion to send your a copy of your CD for DW too look at. ;)

Sorry I can't be of more help. I can only think something wrong with your CD pub, or an uncanny coincidence that all the PC's you've tested on require updated drivers.

Try your ammended IMP attached. I simply added an EXIT button and no problems. (I also unticked Autorun & keyboard/mouse recordings)

Good luck!

Unfortunately a customer of mine seems to have the same problem after rebooting his system without quitting an opus publication (stand alone) correctly.

Since I use Opus XE 5.5 this bug should not occur anymore. Maybe this is an isolated case but I like to know why this error message appears and how to avoid it.

Thanks in advance

This is the correct behaviour. If the publication has not been closed properly then it will assume it crashed during the last run and show the error dialog. The customer needs to close the publication rather than just terminating it.

Duncan, thanks for your reply.

I am afraid this error message causes a lot of unnecessary confusion.

My customers can not understand the meaning of the message for three reasons:

1. They don't speak english.

2. They don't understand such technical message even if they can translate the text.

3. In most cases there is no need to display this message because the publication runs fine.

I would like to delete this registry entry everytime my publication is started to avoid that the error message appears.

Please tell me where I find the registry entry.

Thanks in advance.

T.

This might be the correct message to send a developer, but users should not be given a message that confuses them or makes them lose confidence with a pub they think is faulty.

Most applications just start normally when restarting from an improper shutdown. Opus pubs should do the same.

That is impossible - the check is done by the player before your publication is started - otherwise it would be no use at all!
I'm afraid you need to shut down the publication properly. Alternatively the user would have to check the bottom check box on the crash dialog the first time it arises and the message will be suppressed for that publication.
