Hi

Can anyone help me, I have created an .swf file by encoding a .AVI file through the On2 Flix Pro Encoder. I have then added the resulting .swf file to a page in my opus production by means of the Insert> video option. I selected -Shockwave Flash as the file format and selected my .swf video clip. On selecting the -preview page button the .swf file does not appear or play.

I have the Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Shockwave Flash Player installed.

Can anyone please tell me what I am doing wrong.

Many Thanks

V Crew

Playing Flash files via the Video object requires QuickTime to be installed. There are issues with QuickTime 7 no playing some Flash files, so QuickTime 6 is your best bet.

If you insert the SWF using a DocView object you will not need QuickTime.

I am not sure why you are using Flash if you already have the video as an AVI - why not just use that?

Hi Duncan

I'm trying out the new version of opus pro 05, but I cannot find a 'Doc View' facility anywhere, please could you tell me where I access it from.

The reason I thought of using a .swf file instead of its .avi equilivant is that the .swf file size is a lot smaller and would probably run smoother than the .avi. I have not seen the quality of the .swf compared to that of the .swf at this time but if the .swf file is good I can surely use that instead, or is there some other reason that you shoudn't use a .swf file.

Many thanks for your help

The DocView is the second button on the the Browser button flyout (looks like two sheets of paper).

If you use a video as a SWF you will require the end user to have QuickTime installed. Using the AVI in it's original form will remove that requirement and just play using a normal Video object. Also, converting any compressed video format will always result in poorer quality video.

After some test we did, using swf in the video-object has some strict requirements.

Some thing we now use as a list of swf-video demands are :

- exported as max Flash5
- NO movie clips, just 1 timeline.
- NO script

If someone has an enlightened vision on this, i'd also like to hear it.

Swf files up to and including Flash 8 video should play with full functionality in Doc view - provided the target machines have Flash Player 8 or above. There is is only limited functionality playing with Quicktime in a video object.

There is an additional problem that most corporates, in my experience, with not allow the installation of Quicktime on their intranets.
